Library & Information Literacy Instruction (LILI)

Instructional Partnerships Program

The Instructional Partnerships Program helps campus teaching librarians from the same or different libraries team up to work together on specific instruction goals through reflection, discussion, and observation to improve teaching and learning. The program is intended to:

  • encourage self-reflection about one's teaching
  • provide space and time for one-on-one and in-depth discussions about teaching
  • support experimentation and development of teaching skills among individual librarians in a safe, collegial environment
  • build relationships and community among teaching librarians on campus

Presentations and Workshops

LILI Drop-in Workshops

Campus librarians are welcome to attend the LILI Program's drop-in workshops (e.g., MadCat, Endnote, RefWorks, RSS and Alerts, Google for Academic Research, etc.).

Other Presentations and Workshops

Occasionally there are instruction-related presentations by School of Library and Information Studies faculty and workshops similar to those of the LILI Retreat held during the year.

LILI Instructional Video

This 16-minute video is intended for anyone involved in teaching information literacy skills in a classroom setting (RealPlayer plugin required).

LILI Forum

LILI Forum is a brownbag held on the first Wednesday of the month, 12-1pm, for all campus librarians with interest in instruction. The typical format of the brownbag consists of announcements from the campus LILI Program coordinator, campus instruction-related working groups, and campus libraries with news relevant to instruction followed by a program or discussion on instruction issues. Two co-chairs plan and organize the forum in coordination with the LILI Program coordinator. The LILI Instruction Coordinators Planning Group often suggests topics.

The current co-chairs are Ron Wiecki and Karen Dunn.

Annual Events

LILI Retreat

The annual LILI Retreat for campus librarians with interest in instruction is held in mid-August. The typical format is reports on the past year's accomplishments and future plans from instruction programs of campus libraries in the morning and a workshop related to an instruction topic with invited speaker (s) in the afternoon. Topics of the workshops in recent years have included presentation skills and student engagement, assessment, and online learning.

LILI Dinner

The annual LILI Dinner for campus librarians with interest in instruction is held each May. Historically the dinner has been held at Imperial Garden in Middleton. The dinner is an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the past academic year, build community, and to have fun with one another.
